This is nothing personal towards you (and I'm sure the following description does not fit you) but there are few things I would hate more than meeting up for a weekend with plenty of Withnail fans, most of whom I had never met before, and with whom my only connection would be the love of the film. It would be squirm-inducing, as the more drink that would be consumed, the louder the volume of the quotes would be shouted at you by complete tossers. Imagine thrashing around the locations with some over enthusiastic p*ssed-up pr*t, who won't leave your side, saying: 'So what's your favourite quote then?' That's not to mention the costume wearers.

No, it all sounds like a sci-fi fest. And I don't think 'Withnail' is the sort of film for a festival. I think it attracts the more thoughtful type -- the sort of person that has other interests beyond the film.

As I said to the guys on here with whom I did eventually brave meeting up with*:

Anyhoo, and what's to compare in any case between Withnail and the dude? Sure, Lebowski is a good and funny film, but, here's the thing, when the movie came out, I had to contend with ignoramuses who raved about it but had never even heard of Withnail. Withnail & I is a far superior film than Lebowski, and I'm share Purveyor's anti-Withnail fest sentiments. And I'm not even drunk... yet.

It may look like I am 'having a pop' at our newcomer. Believe me, I am not. I am sure his/her fest would set out with good intentions. I just find these things are spoiled by people!
